Adding Containers to an FCL (Full Container Load) Booking

You will learn how to add containers to an FCL (Full Container Load) Booking.

Setup

  • Ability to add containers will only apply for FCL Bookings.
  • You will need to create a new FCL Booking or edit an existing FCL Booking.

Once in the FCL Booking, locate the Goods Section. It is just beneath the Parties section.

Steps


Adding Containers

  • Click on the Add Container button.

  • Select the Container Type and Quantity to add to the Booking.

  • If you click on the Container Type field, all of the available container types will be listed.

Setup

Logiware comes pre-loaded with all container types as defined by the Internation Standards Organization (ISO). But only the most popular container types ahve been enabled. If you need to enable more types, then you can do this in the Control Panel > Common References > Unit Type screen.

  • As you add containers, they will display in the Goods section:

Optional fields - At the time of Booking (for an export), you may not know any of the container details, such as container #, Seal #, or package details. This information is optional and can be added later as the shipping instructions are recieved with those details.

Container Number Validation - The following validations are required to add the container number:

  • Container number format will be validated to container 4 alpha characters and 7 integers.
  • For Ocean containers the 4th alpha character must be a ā€œUā€
  • The ISO 6341 check digit logic will be applied to the 7th integer digit to verify the check digit matches with the formula.

If any of the validations fail, a warning will be displayed but the user will not be prevented from proceeding with the booking.

Additional Container Information

  • Click on the Additional Container Fields icon to add more details to the container:

Additional Container Weights

  • Tare Weight - the weight of the container itself.
  • VGM Weight - Verified Gross Mass. This is the actual weight of the entire container, including the container and contents. It is the responsibility of the Shipper to provide the carrier with the VGM weight before the VGM cutoff date. Otherwise, the carrier will roll the booking to the next voyage.

Free Days

  • Number of Free Days for Pickup - this is the number of days allowed by the Carrier for the container to be picked up from the port of discharge (POD) terminal after it is unloaded from the vessel upon arrival.
  • Last Free Day - This is the actual date of the last free day to pick up the container before demurrage charges begin.
  • Number of Free Days for Return - this is the number of days allowed by the Carrier for the container to be returned empty after it is picked up from the port of discharge terminal and unloaded at the destination.
  • Last Free Day for Return - this is the actual date of the last free day to return the container before demurrage charges begin.

Refrigeration Settings

  • Temperature - The temperature setting for the refrigerated container in Celsius.
  • Humidity - humidity setting in %
  • Ventilation - air flow setting in CBM/Hour
  • Other Instructions - any other instructions for the refrigerated container can go here.

Other Settings

  • Container Owner - indicates who owns the container, the shipper, or the carrier.
  • Seal Provided by - indicates who provided the seal, the shipper, or the carrier.

Tip

To add a Goods Description or Marks and Numbers to a container, you will first need to add a package to the container (see details in the article: "Adding Packages to a Container".
