Entering a shipment route
In this article
This article will explain how to enter a Route.
Note
Routes provide the path the shipment will take from origin to destination, including the stops at locations along the way. Routes can be comprised of the following types of locations:
- Pickup - This location is only used if the shipment involves the pickup of the goods from the shipper's location and delivery to the Place of Receipt. This can be a zip code or an address. (It may start as a zip code, but must turn into a full address as the shipment progresses)
- Place of Receipt (PLOR) - This is the location where the carrier will take possession of the goods. This can be a port, rail ramp, or CFS warehouse.
- Port of Load (POL) - This is the Port where the goods will be loaded on the vessel. This will be a port identified by a UNLOC code.
- Port of Discharge (POD) - This is the Port where the goods will be unloaded from the vessel. This will be a port identified by a UNLOC code.
- Place of Delivery (PLOD)- This is the location where carrier will deliver the goods. This can be a port, rail ramp, or CFS warehouse.
- Destination - This location is used if the shipment involves the delivery of goods from the Place of Delivery to the consignee's location. This can be a zip code or address (It may start as a zip code, but must turn into a full address as the shipment progresses).
Note
Type of Move is a term used to describe the shipments route. Some of the most common types of move are described below:
- Door to Door - The shipment will involve a pickup at origin and a delivery to the destination.
- Port to Port (or container yard-CY to container yard-CY) - The shipment will be from POL to POD.
- CFS to CFS - The shipment will be from container freight station (CFS) to CFS.
- Rail Ramp to Port - The shipment will be from a rail ramp to a POD.
On each side of the shipment, any combination of the location types can be used: Door, Port, Ramp, CFS.
Navigation
To enter a Route, you need to be in the Quote or Booking screen. Scroll down the page until you see the Route section.
Steps
There are 4 main areas in the Route section:
- Map - a map that will show the route, both planned and live.
- Pickup Route - Used to specify the pickup locations and details for the route.
- Main Route - this is the area where you will enter the PLOR, POL, POD, PLOD.
- Delivery Route - Used to specify the Delivery locations and details for the route.

The map will display the shipment route as details are entered. There are 2 button views in the upper right area of the map:
- Planned Route - will show the planned route as entered into the route section.
- Live Route - will show the current location of the vessel and the projected route as received from the vessels transmitted location.
You can show both planned and live data on the map at the same time.
Pickup Route
Note
Pickup Routes are needed for shipments when you will be picking up the cargo from the shippers warehouse/location and taking it to a CFS warehouse rail ramp or port terminal. In some cases you may need to pickup at multiple locations or use multiple truckers. Logiware allows all of these combinations by using the concept of Pickup Plans. A Pickup Plan is a plan for a trucker to pickup cargo or containers at multiple locations, load containers at multiple locations, and deliver the cargo or containers to the warehouse, ramp, or port. You can create as many plans as you need to handle the various pickup details for your shipment. Each plan is limited to a single trucker and delivery location, but may contain as many pickup and loading locations as needed.
Tip
Please note that the Pickup Plan is used for the pickup of cargo to be loaded on the export side of a shipment, and the Delivery Plan is used to deliver cargo to the destination on the import side of the shipment.
The Pickup Route is located just beneath the map ion the Route section:
- If a Pickup is needed for the shipment you can add pickup plans by clicking on the + icon.
For more details on Creating Pickup Routes, please see the separate article "Adding Pickup Routes to a Shipment".

Delivery Routes are needed for shipments when you will be delivering the cargo to the consignee warehouse/location after it has arrived at the Place of Delivery in the main route. In some cases you may need to deliver to multiple locations or use multiple truckers. Logiware allows all of these combinations by using the concept of Delivery Plans. A Delivery Plan is a plan for a trucker to pickup cargo or containers from the Place of Delivery and deliver it to multiple warehouses or container yards. You can create as many plans as you need to handle the various pickup details for your shipment. Each plan is limited to a single trucker and pickup location, but may contain as many delivery, unloading, and container return locations as needed.
